Master’s degree program in Political Leadership & Government or MPG is a 2-year Master’s degree program (UGC approved) designed and devised for a select few who are interested in taking up the leadership roles in the area of Politics. For those who wish to pursue career either in Electoral Politics or Functional Politics, this is the program for them to fulfill their goals.

The future prospects for the students who graduate from MIT School of Government are excellent. They can utilize their past education along with work experience while pursuing Master’s in Political Leadership and Government in the following manner -

MIT School of Government since its inception has completed 15 years of academic excellence in the field of Political Leadership & Government. In this journey, more than 450 participants have completed the MPG program and over 250 of our alumni are occupying positions of eminence in the political arena. Some are associated with CMs, Union Ministers, Governors, Speakers, organizational positions at the Youth wings of political parties while others are associated with political leaders as consultants, strategists, campaigning or constituency managers. MA in Political Science is a theoretical course offered across state universities of India while Master’s degree program in Political Leadership & Government (MPG) is offered at MIT-SOG only, being one of its kind experiential learning master’s degree program comprising - 1st year on-campus learning and 2nd year off-campus internships & training. MPG provides detailed exposure to students regarding functioning of government and the challenges of Politics. This UGC approved master’s degree program provides adequate opportunities to students to carve out a niche career in Politics. Some of the course highlights are -

The two-year Master’s degree program in Political Leadership & Government follows a trimester based system. There are total 6 trimesters in the program. First year On-Campus Learning and Second year Off-Campus internships & training.

First year On-campus Learning .

It includes Classroom lectures by core and visiting faculty, Interactive Sessions by national level eminent leaders from Politics, Social sector, Bureaucracy, Judiciary, Media and Corporate. Apart from classroom teaching Students get hands on experience via Local field visits to Gram Panchayat, Zilla Parishad, Municipal Corporation, State Assembly, Cooperatives and NGOs. Study Tours related to Constituency management, Campaign & Elections management and National Study Tour to Delhi.

The academic learning in the first year is focused on the following crucial aspects of Politics -

  1. Political Management which deals with Verbal & Written communication, advertising & branding, social media management, public relations
  2. Constituency Management which deals with Development and Management of a constituency may be of a MP, MLA, Corporator, Zilla Parishad member or member of a Gram Panchayat. It prepares them to effectively manage one’s constituency which is core to the development of the concerned region
  3. Campaign & Elections management is an important focus area as it involves planning w.r.t preparation for an election may be Lok Sabha or State Assembly Elections or Municipal Corporation Council Elections, Zilla Parishad or Gram Panchayat Elections. This aspect also covers the crucial part of campaign planning utilizing Media, Research, Data mining, Data analysis, Psephology
  4. Public Policy and International Relations are very important focus areas for study of this program

Second year Off-campus training via different internships -

Second year internships is spread across as - Constituency based, Issue based, with NGOs, with Media Houses and Final career based internship with Political parties and/or with Political leaders which helps the students establish themselves firmly in the Political Sector.

These internships provide the necessary where withal for a young dynamic graduate to face the challenges in Politics and carve a niche career in Electoral Politics or be successful in Functional Politics as Political Analyst, Political Consultant, Policy Research Associates, Constituency managers, Campaign & Election Managers, Social Media Strategist, Public Relations officer etc.

The selection process for Master’s degree program in Political Leadership & Government (MPG) comprises of an objective type multi-choice aptitude test followed by personal interview.
  1. 1. Objective type test is a Combination of Descriptive & Objective type of Questions based on Current & Political Affairs, General Knowledge & Social Awareness.
  2. 2. Personal Interview is conducted by the Selection Panel designated by the Governing Council of MIT-WPU. They are aimed at evaluating the candidate's academic knowledge and general awareness. The Interview also aims to assess the aptitude of the candidate and their aspiration.

Admission Confirmation

Once selected via merit list, the selected participant need to pay Rs. 1,50,000/- as the first installment of the total course fee of Rs.3,00,000/- to confirm his/her seat for admission. Personal Interview is a vital process for decision-making in lieu of allotment of a MPG seat. It is conducted by the Selection Panel designated by the Governing Council of MIT-WPU, aimed at evaluating the candidate's academic knowledge and general awareness. The Interview also aims to assess the aptitude of the candidate and their aspiration.

The parameters for the personal interview are – Communication; Vision/ Objective; Passion/ Attitude; Commitment/ Motivation; Self Confidence; Academic & Analytical ability.

After the completion of the selection process (which comprises – objective type multi-choice aptitude test and a personal interview) a merit list is prepared and based on the results, selected participants are informed via email & sms and their offer letters are sent by email along with the admissions policy.
The course fee for Master’s degree program in Political Leadership & Government (MPG) program fee is Rs. 3,00,000/- per student payable in three installments. First instalment of Rs. 1,00,000/- as the time of confirming admissions of the total course fee of Rs.3,00,000/- to confirm his/her seat for admission. Second & Third installment of Rs. 1,00,000/- lac each to be paid on or before 10 th October 2021 and 31 st January 2022 respectively. The course fee includes - cost of field visits, local study tours, National Study Tour to Delhi and the course material (if any) offered by the institute.

  • OPTIONAL: Two-weeks International Study Tour fee (subsidized) will be charged separately.
MIT-SOG has a strength of 60 seats for its Master’s degree program in Political Leadership & Government (MPG).
There are many degree programs in Political Science, Social Science or Public Administration mostly theoretical in nature but none like Master’s degree program in Political Leadership & Government (MPG) which is an experiential learning master’s degree program, one of its kind in India in the field of Politics offered at MIT School of Government, MIT World Peace University, PUNE.
Candidates need to apply online on www.mitsog.org or www.mitwpu.edu.in. Fill all the particulars and details as asked in the online application form, upload all necessary relevant educational and other documents as required and while submitting the form, pay online admission application fee of Rs 1500/- online using payment gateway attached to the form. Once the filled in admission application form is received by the office, the candidate is duly informed about the next admission selection (online) dates.
MIT-WPU has a tie-up with a few nationalized and private banks for educational loans. Candidates looking to avail such facility may contact the admissions office or the students section. The contact numbers of the concerned officials are also given along with the offer letter at the time of admission. The rate of interest offered is in the range of 12% to 15% and may require collateral security or guarantors based on the amount of the loan.
